- President Donald Trump has lashed out at his three Supreme Court appointees: Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett, following a high court ruling that invalidated his administration’s tariff policies.
- The President described the decision as “an embarrassment to their families,” accusing the jurists of lacking the courage to protect his economic agenda.
- The ruling represents a major judicial setback for the White House, effectively curbing the President’s ability to unilaterally impose trade taxes without congressional approval.
United States President Donald Trump has launched a fierce verbal assault on the Supreme Court justices he appointed to the bench, following a judicial defeat on his administration’s tariff policies.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the President’s remarks came after the Supreme Court ruled against the use of executive authority to impose certain import taxes, a move that the White House had argued was essential for national security and the protection of American jobs.

Addressing the media on Friday, the President did not mince words as he targeted Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett.
He suggested that the trio, whom he successfully navigated through intense confirmation battles during his first term, had abandoned the principles they were appointed to uphold. “This ruling is a total disgrace. It is an embarrassment to their families and a betrayal of the people who worked so hard to put them there,” Trump stated.
The court’s decision centered on whether the President could utilize the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to bypass Congress and implement broad-based tariffs on foreign goods.
In a majority opinion that included the President’s own appointees, the court found that the administration had exceeded its constitutional mandate.

The ruling effectively halts the immediate implementation of several multi-billion dollar tariff packages that were set to impact global trade routes.
President Trump further accused the justices of attempting to curry favor with the Washington establishment.
He argued that the court was “playing politics” rather than following the law as he interprets it. “They want to be loved by the radical left and the fake news media. They don’t have the courage to do what is right for the country.
I gave them their jobs, and this is how they repay the American worker,” he added during a late-night post on his social media platform.
The public rebuke marks a significant escalation in the ongoing tension between the executive and judicial branches.
While previous presidents have expressed disagreement with court rulings, the personal nature of Trump’s attack on his own appointees is largely unprecedented.
Legal analysts suggest that the ruling will force the administration to shift its strategy, potentially seeking legislative assistance from a fractured Congress to achieve its trade goals.
Reaction to the President’s comments has been swift.

Supporters of the administration’s trade policy have echoed his frustrations, while legal experts and bar associations have warned that such rhetoric could undermine the independence of the judiciary.
Despite the pressure, the Supreme Court has remained silent on the President’s comments, adhering to its traditional policy of not engaging in political disputes outside of its written opinions.
