Canadian authorities have identified 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar as the suspect in the deadly shootings at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School and a nearby residence in British Columbia.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the police said eight people lost their lives and 25 others sustained injuries in the attacks. Earlier reports had placed the death toll at nine, but officials later confirmed that eight victims were killed.

Among those who died at the school were a 39-year-old female staff member, three 12-year-old girls, and two boys aged 12 and 13. Most of the student victims were born in 2012 or 2013, according to investigators.
Officers also discovered two additional victims at a local home — a 39-year-old woman and an 11-year-old boy. Police stated that the pair were the suspect’s mother and stepbrother.
The suspect was found dead from what authorities believe was a self-inflicted injury.
In a press briefing, police noted that the suspect was born biologically male and had begun transitioning approximately six years ago, identifying as female.

Investigators said they have not yet determined a motive for the attacks. They also disclosed that officers had previously responded to the suspect’s residence on several occasions in recent years, primarily in connection with mental health-related concerns.
