His appointment followed the resignation of former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Tuesday, February 24.
Speaking with journalists after the ceremony, Disu described his appointment as unexpected, noting that he was deeply moved by the President’s remarks about his career achievements.
“The way the President mentioned several areas I have worked and the successes I have recorded as a policeman brought emotion to me, it almost brought me to tears,” he said.
According to him, the President’s comments signalled a clear challenge to build on his track record and deliver improved security outcomes for the country.
Disu assured Nigerians that his leadership would prioritise discipline, professionalism, and accountability within the Force. He stressed that abuse of power, corruption, and other forms of misconduct would not be tolerated under his watch.

“I will let them know that the era of impunity is over,” he said, adding that officers would receive proper training and be encouraged to uphold human rights standards.
He also emphasised a zero-tolerance stance on corruption and highlighted the importance of public cooperation in effective policing.
“We can never succeed without the cooperation of members of the public,” the Acting IGP added.
Disu’s remarks signal what he described as a renewed commitment to reforming the Nigeria Police Force and strengthening public trust in law enforcement.
