According to community sources, the suspect arrived on Thursday to rent the apartment and officially moved in on Friday.
Neighbors described her as appearing friendly and intentional about making a good impression; she even painted her room and inscribed the words “One Love” on the wall to project a peaceful persona.
However, this appears to have been a calculated move to gain the trust of other tenants before striking on Saturday when the children’s parents were not at home.
The spokesperson for the Ebonyi State Police Command, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the distressing development on Tuesday in Abakaliki.
He assured the public that a rigorous investigation is currently underway, with security operatives working to establish the identity of the woman and locate the children.
The fact that the suspect’s true identity remains unknown to both the landlord and the neighbors has significantly complicated initial rescue efforts.
This incident marks a worrying trend of child abductions within the state.

Just last month, three other children were taken under similar circumstances from a compound in Abakaliki Local Government Area, opposite the Nkwegu Military Cantonment.
As sympathizers gather at the Okeoha residence, there is a heightened sense of urgency and a call for landlords to be more meticulous in verifying the identities of potential tenants to prevent such predatory acts.
