Tragedy struck at Erediauwa Street, off Sapele Road, in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, after two children drowned in a mud-filled floodwater collection site.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the incident occurred in an area designated by the state government for floodwater retention. According to witnesses, four children had gone there to play when they reportedly slipped into the water.

Residents said the children struggled in the muddy floodwater before help could arrive. Two of them were later recovered lifeless, while the other two were rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were successfully resuscitated.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, said officers and rescue teams were immediately deployed to the scene upon receiving information.
She stated that two of the children were confirmed dead, while the remaining two were taken to hospital for treatment.
The tragic development has left residents of the area in shock, with many calling for improved safety measures around designated floodwater collection sites to prevent similar occurrences.
