The General Manager of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Agency, Ifalade Oyekan, has said Lagos is well prepared for the eventual establishment of state police, noting that the state already has a strong security structure that can support the transition, Eko Hot Blog reports.
Speaking during an interview with journalists, Oyekan explained that the agency, which has been widely recognised for promoting community-based policing, is structured in a way that could easily evolve into a state-level security outfit once the legal framework for state police is approved.

According to him, the agency has undergone major restructuring in recent years to meet modern security demands, adopting a proactive approach supported by technology and intelligence gathering.
He added that the agency’s corps officers are trained not only to respond to incidents but also to anticipate and prevent security threats before they escalate.
Oyekan, who was recently reappointed for a second five-year term by Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strengthening grassroots security across the state.

He said the agency would continue to develop into a more efficient and responsive institution capable of supporting the governor’s vision of making Lagos safer for residents and businesses.
