Confederation of African Football (CAF) has extended its School Football Development Initiative to Lagos State, with Epe Grammar School announced as one of the latest beneficiaries of the continental programme.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the initiative is aimed at promoting football development at the grassroots level by providing students with the necessary resources and opportunities to nurture their talents in the sport.
The Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) played a key role in the selection process, identifying the school for inclusion in the programme.
LSFA Assistant Secretary Kayode Okuneye and Chairman of the Epe Divisional Football Association, Adekoya, were commended for their contributions toward the successful implementation of the initiative.
Speaking on the development, the Principal of the school, Ajayi Sulaiman, expressed appreciation to CAF and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for selecting the institution.
“We are grateful to the Lagos State Football Association Chairman, Hajji Gafar, for deeming Epe Grammar School worthy of this opportunity.”
He noted that the programme would play a significant role in developing young football talents within the school and expressed excitement among both staff and students about the opportunities the initiative would bring.
The CAF School Football Development Initiative forms part of the organization’s broader strategy to strengthen youth football across Africa.
The NFF is currently coordinating the implementation of the programme in Nigeria, with selected schools across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory expected to benefit.
Epe Grammar School is known for producing notable personalities including Wale Raji, member representing Epe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives;
Adeyemi Ikuforiji, former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly; and Tunde Doherty.
The initiative is expected to further strengthen youth football development in the region while providing a pathway for students to hone their skills and potentially emerge as future stars of the game.
