The China has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting environmentally friendly development in Nigeria, with a focus on deepening cooperation in climate action and sustainable growth, Eko Hot Blog reports.
This was made known by China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, in a policy statement where he stressed the urgent need to balance economic growth with environmental protection.

According to the envoy, achieving sustainable development remains a global challenge, but one that can be addressed through stronger international collaboration and shared responsibility.
He highlighted China’s progress in green development, noting that the country has integrated environmental sustainability into its national development plans, including its latest Five-Year Plan and ecological policies aimed at promoting cleaner growth.
Yu pointed out that China has taken major steps in tackling pollution, expanding forest cover, and reducing desertification, adding that the country contributes significantly to global green space growth.
He also emphasised China’s leadership in renewable energy, stating that it currently has the world’s largest renewable energy system and leads in both solar and wind power production.
On the global stage, the ambassador said China remains committed to multilateral cooperation, particularly through initiatives like the Belt and Road programme, which supports green development across partner countries.

He noted that collaboration between China and African nations has continued to grow, especially in areas such as clean energy, agriculture, and environmental protection.
Focusing on Nigeria, Yu described the country as an important partner in climate action and regional sustainability efforts.
He said China is ready to work more closely with Nigeria in areas such as clean energy development, disaster risk management, desertification control, and green financing.
The ambassador added that both countries have an opportunity to strengthen their partnership while promoting long-term economic growth that is environmentally sustainable.
He concluded by reaffirming China’s commitment to a low-carbon future, expressing optimism that global cooperation will help build a cleaner and more sustainable world.
