The Federal Government has strongly condemned reported cases of s3xual assault and harassment of women during a local festival in Ozoro, describing the incidents as a serious violation of human rights and national laws.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, authorities described the alleged acts as “deeply troubling and unacceptable,” stressing that no cultural or traditional practice can justify s3xual violence.

The Ministry called for an immediate and thorough investigation into the incidents, urging law enforcement agencies to ensure that all those responsible are identified and prosecuted without delay.
It also referenced existing laws, including the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, which criminalises such offences.
Reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the statement emphasised that protecting the rights and dignity of women and girls remains a top priority. It added that victims must be able to access justice without fear, intimidation, or stigma.

The Ministry commended the swift response of the Delta State Police Command under Commissioner Aina Adesola, while calling for a transparent and expedited investigation to ensure accountability.
It also disclosed plans to work with the Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs to provide support for victims, including medical care, psychosocial services, and legal assistance.
Beyond immediate action, the government said it would engage traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to address harmful practices and promote values that prioritise safety, respect, and dignity.
The public was also urged to cooperate with authorities to ensure justice is served and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
