The suspects are currently in police custody in Birnin Kebbi, while investigations continue to determine the exact circumstances that led to the children’s deaths.
In response to the tragedy, the Kebbi State Government has set up a nine-member panel of inquiry headed by Yakubu Ahmed to thoroughly investigate the case.
The panel has already commenced sittings in Zuru, where it is taking testimonies from medical personnel and other key individuals. Among those who have appeared before the panel are Thomas Gode and Mohammed Fakai, alongside nurses who were on duty at the time.
The children’s father, Ibrahim Abdullahi Shuni, as well as other family members, have also provided accounts of what transpired.
Preliminary findings from the hearings point to lapses in communication among hospital staff as a possible contributing factor, highlighting the need for urgent reforms in the system.
As part of its response, the state government has donated N10 million to the bereaved family to help cushion the emotional and financial impact of the loss.

Speaking at the Emir’s Palace in Zuru, Ahmed said the gesture was meant to show support to the grieving family.
“No sum of money can replace the lives lost, but we hope this support shows that the family has not been abandoned,” he said.
Also speaking, the Emir of Zuru, Mohammed Sanusi Mikailu Sami, urged the family to remain strong while calling on healthcare workers to uphold professional standards.
“Negligence that risks human lives is unacceptable. Continuous training is essential for all health personnel,” the monarch said.
On behalf of the family, Barrister Garba Shehu expressed appreciation to the government for its intervention and commitment to ensuring a thorough investigation.
