Delivering judgment, the Chief Judge of Taraba State, Joel Agya, found the defendant guilty of culpable homicide not punishable by death and handed down a 15-year sentence without the option of a fine.
The case, filed by the Office of the Attorney General, included charges related to abduction and homicide under the Taraba State Kidnapping and Abduction Prohibition (Amendment) Law and the Penal Code.
According to the prosecution, the victim was taken and later found buried in a shallow grave in the Dankuturu area of Mutum Biyu.
However, the court ruled that the allegation of abduction was not proven beyond reasonable doubt. The judge also noted concerns raised by the defence regarding gaps in the investigation and the absence of key witnesses.

On the homicide charge, the court held that while the evidence presented did not support a death penalty conviction, it was sufficient to establish culpable homicide.
Reacting to the judgment, defence counsel Dahiru Modibbo said he intends to challenge the ruling at the appellate court.
