The Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Government Area following a deadly attack on Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba on Sunday.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that residents were thrown into panic after suspected gunmen stormed the area at about 7:50 pm and opened fire on members of the community. The attack left several people feared dead, while many others sustained injuries.
Eyewitness accounts said the sound of gunshots forced residents to flee in different directions as the assailants carried out the attack.
Although the exact number of casualties has not been officially confirmed, sources within the community said multiple lives were lost and several victims were receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.
The curfew was announced in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap.
According to the statement, the restriction took effect from 12 midnight on March 29, 2026, and will remain in force until April 1, 2026.
The state government described the incident as a tragic security breach that resulted in loss of lives and injuries.
The administration of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric and unprovoked.
“Following the tragic security incident that occurred at Gari Ya Waye community Angwan Rukuba today Sunday 29th March resulting in the loss of lives, while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries, the Plateau State Government in conjunction with security agencies wishes to inform the general public of the imposition of a 48-hour curfew within Jos North Local Government Area with immediate effect,” the statement said.
The government said security agencies had begun operations to restore order and track down those responsible.
“The government under the leadership of His Excellency, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang strongly condemns this barbaric and unprovoked attack on innocent citizens and assures the public that all necessary measures are being taken to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” the statement added.
Authorities urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.

“Citizens are urged to remain calm, stay vigilant, and cooperate fully with security agencies by providing any useful information that may aid ongoing investigations,” the statement concluded.
