Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has disclosed that gunmen behind the recent deadly attack in Jos disguised themselves as officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency to gain access to the community before launching their assault.
The incident, which occurred in Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area, left at least 28 people dead and several others injured, Eko Hot Blog reports.

The governor, however, confirmed that no suspects have been arrested so far.
President Bola Tinubu had earlier visited the state to sympathise with victims and directed security agencies to track down those responsible for the killings.

Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Mutfwang explained that the attackers took advantage of a familiar pattern of NDLEA operations to deceive residents.
According to him, the assailants arrived hooded and acted in a manner similar to anti-drug operatives, leading residents to initially believe it was a routine enforcement exercise.
“They understood how people react to NDLEA raids and used that to their advantage. By the time residents realised what was happening, significant damage had already been done and the attackers had fled,” he said.

The governor noted that security agencies are currently working with credible intelligence to identify those behind the attack, though he declined to provide details due to ongoing investigations.
He described the assault as carefully planned and executed, adding that the attackers demonstrated a high level of coordination and weapon-handling skills.
While acknowledging the anger and grief among residents, Mutfwang urged the public to remain calm and avoid retaliatory actions, stressing the importance of maintaining law and order as investigations continue.
