Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed that 11 people were killed and no fewer than 52 houses destroyed following a violent communal clash in Akyawa and Udege Kasa communities in Nasarawa Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, April 3, 2026, was reportedly a retaliatory attack by suspected hoodlums over the alleged killing of two individuals from an opposing group, Eko Hot Blog reports.

The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, visited the affected communities shortly after the incident.
During his visit, he held a meeting with key stakeholders, urging residents to remain calm, obey the law, and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, the command disclosed that a manhunt had been launched to apprehend those responsible for the attack, which also led to the destruction of property worth millions of naira.
The police expressed sympathy to the families of the victims, describing the incident as tragic and unfortunate.
According to the statement, the violence broke out as a reprisal, resulting in multiple casualties and widespread destruction. About 50 houses were razed in Akyawa, while two others were destroyed in Udege Kasa.

Condemning the attack, the Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the command’s determination to bring the perpetrators to justice. He also directed tactical units and investigators to intensify efforts to track down those involved.
Security presence in the affected areas has since been strengthened, with support from the military and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to restore peace and prevent further violence.
The police assured residents that calm has been restored and that proactive steps are being taken to avert a recurrence of such incidents.
