A group of aggrieved members within the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over an alleged plan by some party leaders to impose candidates ahead of upcoming elections.
Eko Hot Blog reports that in a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by Tunde Samson on behalf of what it described as “concerned and vigilant members,” the group accused key figures, including James Faleke, Cornelius Ojelabi, and Mutiu Are, of allegedly holding private meetings to draw up a predetermined list of candidates for the House of Representatives and the Lagos State House of Assembly.

According to the group, the meetings are reportedly being held at a private residence and are aimed at sidelining the party’s commitment to direct primaries.
They described the alleged move as a threat to internal democracy within the party, warning that it undermines the rights of members and goes against the core principles of the APC.
The statement read in part that such actions contradict the party’s stance on direct primaries and could erode trust among party faithful.

The group insisted that the Lagos APC must not be controlled by a few individuals or turned into a platform for predetermined political arrangements, stressing that all aspirants should be given a fair chance.
They also referenced past local government election controversies in the state, alleging that previous exercises were marred by irregularities and imposition, an outcome they warned must not be repeated.
Calling for intervention, the group urged President Bola Tinubu to ensure that democratic processes are upheld within the party, noting his history of participating in party primaries and supporting credible elections.
Issuing what it described as a final warning, the members stated that any attempt to bypass due process could trigger strong resistance within the party.
“There must be free, fair, and transparent primaries. Anything short of that will be resisted,” the statement added.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to get reactions from those named in the allegations were unsuccessful.
