EKO HOT BLOG reports that the decision, delivered by the World Athletics Nationality Review Panel on Thursday, dismissed an application submitted by the Türkiye Athletics Federation. The panel cited concerns over the integrity of international competition and what it described as coordinated recruitment of athletes across multiple countries.
Speaking on Friday, NSC Director General Bukola Olopade said Nigeria remains fully supportive of the athlete and is ready to provide the necessary backing for her to compete at the highest level.
“She’s our daughter. We love her so much, and I’ve always said we must speak to her to come home. I am urging Ofili and those close to her that home is waiting for her,” Olopade said.
He encouraged the sprinter to remain focused despite the setback, highlighting the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games as a key target.
“Don’t be dejected or angry. Know that we love you and we still want you back. We promise you all the support that you require to shine at the Olympics in two years’ time,” he added.
World Athletics also confirmed that 11 transfer applications linked to the same recruitment effort were rejected, warning that such moves could undermine the credibility of national representation in athletics.
Reports indicate that Turkey may appeal the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, in what could become a significant case on nationality transfers in global athletics.

In Nigeria, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria welcomed the decision. Its president, Tonobok Okowa, called for unity and support for the athlete, stressing the importance of stability and encouragement.
Ofili remains eligible to represent Nigeria at major competitions, including the World Championships and the Olympic Games.
