EKO HOT BLOG reports that talks between the governor’s camp and the APC leadership broke down after the ruling party rejected a 60 to 40 formula that would have given Mohammed’s faction majority control of party structures across the state, from ward to state level.
The development was confirmed by Sama’ila Burga, chairman of the Turaki-led PDP faction in Bauchi State, who said the APC was unwilling to accommodate the governor’s political structure.
According to him, negotiations were initiated through the governor and involved APC national leaders, with Abba Yusuf also playing a role in efforts to persuade Mohammed to join the ruling party.
“This is how it has been done in other places where governors defected to APC. They rejected this formula and we have closed that discussion,” Burga said.
He added that after consultations with key stakeholders, the PDP faction resolved to formally end the talks.
“After careful consideration… the conditions collectively advanced were not accepted by the APC leadership. The discussions have not yielded a conclusive outcome and are hereby formally discontinued,” he stated.
Despite the failed negotiations, the governor’s camp has indicated that it remains open to political realignment ahead of future elections.
Burga disclosed that the faction is currently exploring alternative options beyond the APC, with consultations ongoing at different levels.
“Consequently, the PDP in Bauchi State… is actively considering all available political options other than the APC,” he added.

The collapse of the talks highlights growing political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections, with shifting alliances expected to shape the landscape in key states.
