The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, has appointed Matthew Kukah as Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.
The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to the statement, Kukah’s appointment is expected to strengthen the university’s global outlook by leveraging his international network, promoting strategic partnerships, and encouraging ethical leadership within the institution.
Aburime described Kukah as a respected Nigerian cleric and intellectual whose work combines academic scholarship with advocacy for social justice and national development.
“The Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has appointed Most Rev. Dr Matthew Kukah, Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as the Chancellor of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State,” the statement read.
It highlighted Kukah’s academic background, noting that he studied Philosophy and Theology at St. Augustine Major Seminary in Jos, obtained a diploma in religious studies from the University of Ibadan, and earned a Bachelor of Divinity from the Pontifical Urban University in Rome.
He also holds a master’s degree in Peace Studies from the University of Bradford and a PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. The statement added that Kukah had academic exposure at the University of Oxford and Harvard University.
Kukah is also recognised as a prolific author and founder of The Kukah Centre, an institution focused on research, interfaith dialogue, and policy advocacy.

The government said his appointment signals a commitment to producing well-rounded graduates and strengthening institutional leadership through integrity and global engagement.
