EKO HOT BLOG reports that the approval followed an application filed by El-Rufai’s legal team, which requested the court to direct the ICPC to allow him access to medical care, particularly for dental and eye treatment.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Head of Media and Public Communications at the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, J. Okor Odey, said the court granted the request after considering arguments from both the prosecution and defence.
According to the statement, the court directed the anti-graft agency to escort El-Rufai, under strict supervision, to medical facilities of his choice in Abuja whenever necessary.
“Ruling on this application, the court granted the request and directed the ICPC to convey Mallam El-Rufai, under strict supervision, to medical facilities of his choice, including Mile Dental Clinic and Skipper Eye-Q Hospital, Abuja, whenever the need arises, and to return him to custody immediately after such treatment,” the statement read.
“The court emphasised that all such movements shall remain under the strict supervision of ICPC.”
El-Rufai and one Joel Adoga were arraigned by the ICPC on March 24 before the Federal High Court on charges bordering on alleged fraud and money laundering. The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The court later granted El-Rufai bail in the sum of ₦200 million with two sureties, while also affirming the administrative bail earlier granted to Adoga.
Odey disclosed that Wednesday’s proceedings focused on El-Rufai’s motion seeking a variation of his bail conditions.

“At the proceedings, Dr. Agada Akogwu appeared for the prosecution, while Oluwole Olaniyan SAN led a team of defence counsel that adopted the motion for variation of bail conditions, while prosecution counsel adopted a counter-affidavit in opposition to the application,” he added.
After hearing submissions from both parties, the court adjourned the matter to May 7 for ruling.
