- Governor Abba Yusuf has officially submitted his nomination form to the APC National Working Committee, backed by a unanimous endorsement from party stakeholders as the sole candidate for the 2027 Kano governorship race.
- The submission follows Yusuf’s high-profile defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC in January 2026, a move that significantly shifted the state’s political landscape.
- The Governor pledged to prioritize urban renewal, rural feeder roads, and healthcare expansion, while aligning his second-term vision with the federal “Renewed Hope” agenda.
Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State took a definitive step toward his re-election bid on Thursday by submitting his nomination form at the All Progressives Congress (APC) national headquarters in Abuja.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Governor was accompanied by a powerful delegation of Kano political heavyweights, including former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and Senator Kawu Sumaila, underscoring the consolidated support he now enjoys within the ruling party.

Speaking after the submission, Yusuf described his second-term ambition as a “fresh call to service.” He detailed plans to modernize Kano’s markets and drainage systems while intensifying investments in rural water supply and youth empowerment programs.
By rejoining the APC earlier this year alongside a vast majority of state and federal lawmakers, Yusuf has effectively integrated Kano’s executive and legislative arms into the national ruling party, a move he says will attract more federal projects to the state.

The transition marks a remarkable turnaround in Kano politics, moving from the internal crises that plagued the NNPP to a consensus arrangement within the APC.
Party stakeholders had previously purchased the expression of interest and nomination forms for the Governor, signaling an end to potential primary friction.
Yusuf expressed his gratitude to the people of Kano, promising that a second term would focus on inclusive leadership and transparent governance to ensure the state remains a center of commerce and development.
