EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a major break from tradition, FIFA President Gianni Infantino disclosed that the 2026 World Cup would feature three simultaneous opening ceremonies across the host nations.
The celebrations will begin on June 11 at Estadio Azteca, where Tyla will perform alongside J Balvin, Maná, Alejandro Fernández, and Belinda before Mexico’s opening match against South Africa.
On June 12, BMO Field will host Canada’s ceremony featuring Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, and Nora Fatehi before Canada face Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Los Angeles will later host the headline ceremony where Rema is expected to perform before a global audience.
“This opening ceremony in Los Angeles represents the extraordinary scale of what the FIFA World Cup 2026 will become,” Infantino said on FIFA’s official website.
“The lineup of artists reflects the cultural diversity of the United States and the vibrancy of its many diasporas.”
The announcement marks another major international milestone for Rema, who previously performed at the 2023 Ballon d’Or in Paris.
Nigeria’s presence at the tournament also extends to the official World Cup anthem, with Burna Boy teaming up with Shakira on the track titled “Dai Dai,” scheduled for full release on May 14.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will run from June 11 to July 19 and will feature 48 teams and 104 matches across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
