EKO HOT BLOG reports that the development was disclosed by transfer expert Nicolo Schira, who revealed that Maresca has already agreed terms on a contract expected to run until 2028, with an option for a further one-year extension.
In a post shared on 𝕏, Schira stated: “It is now up to Guardiola to decide what to do as Maresca is waiting.”
Manchester City’s hierarchy is understood to have quietly put succession plans in place amid growing uncertainty surrounding Guardiola’s long-term future at the club.
The Spanish tactician has one year remaining on his current contract and has repeatedly been linked with a possible departure after overseeing one of the most dominant eras in English football history.
Club insiders reportedly see Maresca as a natural successor due to his strong understanding of the club’s football philosophy and internal structure.
The Italian coach previously worked under Guardiola as part of City’s coaching staff before moving into senior management, where he has continued to build his reputation.
His close relationship with the club and familiarity with Guardiola’s tactical system are believed to have strengthened his position as the leading candidate for the role.
Should the transition eventually happen, it would mark the end of a remarkable era under Guardiola, who has transformed Manchester City into a dominant force in the Premier League and a regular contender in European competitions.
Since arriving at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola has guided the club to multiple Premier League titles, domestic cups and continental success.

The 55-year-old recently addressed growing speculation about his future, insisting that his focus remains on the current campaign despite increasing uncertainty over his next move.
