Police said preliminary investigations revealed that Govi, who reportedly trained at a catering school in Cotonou, Benin Republic, secured employment as a chef at the residence after linking up with two suspected accomplices identified as Peter and Moses, who are currently on the run.
Investigators alleged that the suspect spent time studying the movement of residents, daily routines and the security structure of the house before the operation was carried out on April 23, 2026.
The police further disclosed that food prepared in the residence was allegedly laced with a suspected sedative substance meant to weaken the occupants and security personnel.
According to the statement, after the substance took effect, the suspect allegedly allowed his accomplices into the residence, where they vandalised the CCTV system, searched the apartment and escaped with cash and 20 luxury wristwatches valued at about ₦150 million.

Police operatives later intercepted the suspects along the Gwagwalada axis while they were allegedly attempting to flee towards Lagos.
During the operation, officers recovered an iPhone 17 Pro Max said to belong to the victim, alongside a suspected chemical substance which has been sent for forensic analysis.
The police said investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and reaffirmed their commitment to tackling organised crime across the country.
