Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as the vice-presidential candidate to run alongside its presidential flag bearer, Peter Obi, in the 2027 general election.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the announcement was made on Saturday shortly after Obi secured the party’s presidential ticket, officially emerging as its candidate for the next national poll.

The decision brings together two influential opposition politicians who recently joined the NDC after leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Both leaders cited unresolved internal disputes and prolonged legal battles within their former party as reasons for their defection.
Party officials believe the combination of Obi and Kwankwaso will boost the NDC’s electoral prospects by attracting support from different regions of the country.

Obi has built a strong following among many young Nigerians and enjoys considerable backing in the South-East and parts of the South-South.
Kwankwaso, on the other hand, remains a major political force in Kano State and commands significant influence across sections of Northern Nigeria through his political network.
The NDC leadership expressed confidence that the new ticket would strengthen the party’s nationwide appeal and position it as a formidable contender ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Political observers say the alliance could alter the dynamics of the upcoming contest, given the popularity and political structures controlled by both leaders across key voting blocs.
