In a statement issued by NIDCOM’s Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the commission expressed concern over the developments and sympathised with individuals and families affected by the unrest.
“Whenever communities experience moments of tension, it is important that we do not allow isolated incidents to divide us, but rather strengthen our commitment to peace, dialogue and mutual respect,” Dabiri-Erewa stated.
The commission emphasised the importance of restraint, understanding and respect for law and order, urging all residents to avoid actions capable of worsening tensions.
NIDCOM also commended community leaders and organisations working to promote peaceful coexistence and encourage constructive engagement among different groups within Northern Ireland.

The commission particularly acknowledged efforts by local leaders who have called for cooperation with law enforcement agencies and advocated measures aimed at preventing further divisions within the community.
Speaking in a recent interview with the BBC, Nigerian community leader and founder of Multi-Ethnic Sports and Cultures Northern Ireland (MSCNI), Jahswill Emmanuel, expressed sadness over the unrest and extended condolences to those affected.
He stressed the need for unity and collective responsibility in preserving peace and stability, noting that migrant communities, including Nigerians, remain committed to making positive contributions to society.
Emmanuel urged residents not to allow isolated incidents to undermine community relations and called for closer collaboration with law enforcement authorities to prevent further escalation.
Reaffirming its commitment to the safety, dignity and welfare of Nigerians living abroad, NIDCOM urged Nigerians in Northern Ireland to remain law-abiding and continue promoting peaceful coexistence.
The commission said it would continue monitoring the situation and engaging relevant authorities in the interest of Nigerians residing in the region.
