The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspected cultists in a renewed crackdown on cult-related violence and criminal activities in the state.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the suspects, identified as Oparemi Kabiru, popularly known as “Ikebe”, and Fasasi Taofeek, alias “Bufalo”, were apprehended by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Oyo Base, during an intelligence-led operation in the Oke-Apo area of Oyo Town on June 17.

Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, in a statement, said the arrests followed credible intelligence linking the suspects and their associates to activities threatening public peace and security in Oyo Town and surrounding communities.
A search on the suspects led to the recovery of one locally-fabricated pistol and two live cartridges. Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo are alleged members of the Eiye Supremo Confraternity. They reportedly confessed to participating in several violent criminal activities within Oyo Town and its environs.
The Command described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in its ongoing fight against cultism and violent crimes.

Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji, reiterated the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that criminal elements would not be allowed to operate freely in the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to security agencies, emphasizing that security is a collective responsibility. The CP encouraged the public to adopt the “See Something, Say Something” principle and assured them that all information would be handled with confidentiality and professionalism.
The Command stated that investigations are ongoing, while efforts are being intensified to apprehend other members of the criminal network. It reaffirmed its determination to rid Oyo State of cultism, armed violence, and other criminal activities.
