The Federal Government has secured about 150 terrorism-related convictions within the first two days of the latest phase of its mass terrorism trials, Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, has disclosed, Eko Hot Blog reports.
Speaking with journalists on Tuesday at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where the trials are being conducted before 10 judges simultaneously, Fagbemi said the ongoing exercise demonstrates the government’s resolve to tackle terrorism through legal means.

According to the Attorney-General, the current phase of the trials commenced on Monday and immediately recorded significant progress, with about 160 cases heard and nearly 150 convictions secured on the first day.
“Yesterday, we had about 160 trials. I think about 150 convictions,” Fagbemi said.
He explained that proceedings continued on Tuesday with about 300 cases brought before the courts, while an additional 84 matters were expected to be concluded before the end of the day.
Fagbemi noted that the trials would continue through Wednesday and Thursday, urging Nigerians to remain patient as the judicial process unfolds.
“Whatever we can do, or wherever we stop today, we’ll continue tomorrow and also on Thursday. So it’s still ongoing,” he stated.

The minister described the exercise as part of the Federal Government’s broader commitment to justice, accountability and the fight against terrorism.
He recalled that the ongoing proceedings represent the fourth phase of mass terrorism trials under the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“The message is clear, direct and straightforward. It is that the present administration is not taking the issue of terrorism with levity,” Fagbemi said.
He stressed that terrorism in any form would not be tolerated, adding that the government remains committed to ensuring that those involved in terrorist activities face the full weight of the law.
The prosecution team is being led by the Attorney-General, while the Director-General of the Legal Aid Council, Aliyu Abubakar, heads the defence.
Among the judges handling the cases are Binta Nyako, Emeka Nwite, Musa Liman, James Omotosho, Obiora Egwuatu and Ekerete Akpan.
The current phase of the trials is expected to run for one week, concluding on Thursday. It follows an earlier round held in April, during which more than 500 terrorism suspects were arraigned before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
