NiDCOM stated that although no court judgment can bring back the deceased or erase the pain suffered by their families, the sentence marks an important step toward justice and accountability.
Chibueze Momah, who was 22 years old at the time of his death, had recently obtained a diploma in Computer Programming and aspired to build a successful career in the technology sector. He was the only son of Mr. Ikechukwu Momah and a member of a family of five.
According to the commission, Momah had hoped to support and eventually reunite with members of his family in Canada.
The second victim, Tosin Amos-Arowoshegbe, was working as a security personnel when he was killed. Both men were described by relatives, friends and colleagues as hardworking, ambitious and committed to creating better futures for themselves and their families.

NiDCOM recalled that following the incident in 2022, its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, paid condolence visits to the bereaved families and assured them of the commission’s support during their period of grief.
The commission also commended law enforcement agencies and judicial authorities involved in the investigation, extradition, prosecution and conviction of the offender.
It further praised the resilience and patience shown by the victims’ families throughout the legal process.
NiDCOM reiterated its commitment to protecting the interests and welfare of Nigerians living abroad, noting that it would continue to advocate for justice whenever Nigerian citizens become victims of crimes in foreign countries.
The commission extended its condolences to the Momah and Amos-Arowoshegbe families and prayed for the peaceful repose of the departed souls.
