EKO HOT BLOG reports that the planned disruption was announced in a statement issued on Friday by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, who said the maintenance exercise would also affect Gazaoua in the Republic of Niger.
According to the company, the temporary outage is necessary to facilitate ongoing upgrade works at the Kumbotso 330-kilovolt transmission substation, a key infrastructure project designed to improve the reliability and capacity of power transmission in the region.
TCN explained that its contractor will continue the upgrade of the 330kV Bus II jumpers and replace the existing 350mm² conductors with higher-capacity 800mm² conductors to reinforce the transmission network.
The company said the maintenance is part of broader efforts to modernise critical transmission infrastructure and enhance the stability of electricity supply across affected areas.
As a result of the exercise, electricity distribution companies serving the affected locations will temporarily be unable to receive bulk power for distribution to customers.
“Consequently, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), as well as parts of Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) and Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), will be unable to off-take power for distribution to customers in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states, as well as Azare in Bauchi State, Nguru in Yobe State, and Gazaoua in the Niger Republic,” the statement read.
TCN apologised for the inconvenience the temporary interruption may cause, assuring residents and businesses that the maintenance is essential to complete critical upgrades that will improve the efficiency, reliability and resilience of the transmission network.

The company added that normal electricity supply would be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed, urging affected customers to bear with the temporary disruption as efforts continue to strengthen the country’s power infrastructure.
