The event brought together government officials, education stakeholders, teachers and students to raise awareness about the dangers of social vices and encourage responsible behaviour among young people.

Speaking at the programme, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, reaffirmed the state’s commitment to ensuring that schools remain safe spaces where students can learn without fear of violence, intimidation or other harmful influences.
He stressed that tackling s3xual and gender-based violence, bullying, cultism and drug abuse requires the collective efforts of parents, teachers, communities and government agencies.
“Education is not merely about acquiring academic knowledge. It is about nurturing responsible, confident, morally upright and productive citizens,” the commissioner said.
Alli-Balogun urged teachers to remain vigilant, compassionate and professional in carrying out their responsibilities, describing them as mentors, counsellors and protectors of children.
He encouraged educators never to ignore complaints of bullying or abuse, regardless of how minor they may appear, adding that every child deserves to be heard, protected and treated with dignity.
The commissioner also advised students to speak up whenever they experience or witness abuse and to support classmates facing bullying or intimidation.
In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, said the programme reflects the commitment of the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to providing safe, secure and inclusive learning environments for every child.
She noted that beyond academic excellence, the government remains focused on raising disciplined, morally upright and responsible citizens.
Dokunmu-Adegbite also called on parents and guardians to play active roles in protecting their children by monitoring both their online and offline activities while fostering open communication at home.

She commended the Lagos State Domestic and S3xual Violence Agency and the Ministry of Youth and Social Development for their continued collaboration in advancing child protection and promoting positive values in public secondary schools.
During the programme, representatives of the DSVA and the Ministry of Youth and Social Development educated participants on the various forms of sexual and gender-based violence, the dangers of bullying, cultism and substance abuse, as well as the importance of reporting abuse, seeking help and supporting victims.
Participants were also enlightened on available reporting channels and support services for victims.
Among the dignitaries at the event were the Chairman of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, represented by Mrs. M. Aloba; Tutors-General/Permanent Secretaries of Education Districts IV and VI, Mr. Olufemi Paseda and Mrs. Mojisola Yusuf; Director-General of the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), Dr. Sulaimon Ogundimu; Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Mr. Adebayo Oransolu; Chief Executive Officer of Global Education Media Limited, Mr. Durotimi Adeboye, alongside other education stakeholders.

The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining awareness campaigns and strengthening partnerships with relevant agencies to protect students, promote positive values and create safer school environments across all public secondary schools.
