President Bola Tinubu has directed the Federal Ministry of Works to convene a meeting with key stakeholders and property owners along the Lagos coastal corridor as part of efforts to find a lasting solution to the persistent flooding affecting parts of the state during the rainy season.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the directive was disclosed on Monday by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Olufemi Dare, amid renewed concerns over flooding in communities around the Lagos Calabar Coastal Highway corridor.

According to Dare, the meeting will bring together officials of the Lagos State Government, the Federal Ministry of the Environment, representatives of affected landlords and other relevant stakeholders to discuss practical measures to address the recurring problem.
He said the stakeholder engagement and press briefing will hold on Tuesday, July 7, at Zinnia Hall, Eko Hotels and Suites, Lagos.
Dare also revealed that officials of the Federal Ministry of Works and members of the National Assembly Committee on Works would carry out an assessment of the affected areas to determine the causes and extent of the flooding and recommend appropriate solutions.

He, however, dismissed claims linking the Lagos Calabar Coastal Highway project to the flooding, insisting that the road project did not contribute to the situation.
“It should be noted that the Lagos Calabar Coastal Highway has not contributed to the flooding issue in Lagos State,” Dare said.
“However, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has directed that this meeting take place to find a lasting solution to the flooding issue in the Lagos coastal corridor.”
The planned engagement comes as residents in several parts of Lagos continue to grapple with flooding triggered by heavy rainfall, raising concerns over drainage infrastructure, environmental management and the impact of rapid urban development in the coastal city.
