The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Acting Media Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Capt. Mohammed Goni.
According to the statement, the two commanders surrendered to troops of Sector 2 in Geidam on July 4, 2026, before arriving in Maiduguri at about 7:30 p.m. on July 5, where they are currently in military custody.
The Army identified the suspects as Munzirs within the terrorist leadership structure, noting that they are undergoing detailed profiling, debriefing and intelligence exploitation.
Preliminary interrogation, according to the military, revealed that the suspects occupied key leadership positions and possess extensive knowledge of the group’s operational activities, command structure and logistics network.
The Army said the initial intelligence gathered from the debriefing has provided valuable insights into the terrorists’ operational methods, support systems and sustainment mechanisms.

It added that the information would significantly enhance intelligence-led operations aimed at locating, disrupting and dismantling remaining terrorist enclaves across the North East theatre.
Describing the surrender as another major setback for the insurgents, the military said it further demonstrates the effectiveness of sustained offensive operations by troops of Operation HADIN KAI.
The statement noted that coordinated land and air operations, supported by enhanced intelligence, have continued to restrict the movement of terrorists, degrade their combat capabilities and weaken their command structures.
According to the Army, the sustained pressure has forced many terrorist leaders and fighters to abandon the insurgency and surrender, further signalling the gradual disintegration of the group.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the offensive against insurgents, stating that troops would continue to exploit actionable intelligence, intensify military operations and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to restore lasting peace, security and stability across the North East.
