With extra time just moments away, Argentina completed the comeback in stoppage time. Messi delivered another precise cross into the box, and substitute Lautaro Martinez nodded into an empty net in the 92nd minute to seal a memorable victory for the reigning world champions.
England pressed for an equaliser during nine minutes of added time, but goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and Argentina’s defence stood firm to preserve the lead and send their team into another World Cup final.
Argentina will now take on Spain, who secured their place in the final with a composed 2-0 victory over France in Dallas. Spain continued their impressive defensive form by keeping another clean sheet, having conceded only once in seven matches at the tournament.

The final will see two of international football’s biggest nations battle for the title, with Argentina chasing back to back World Cup crowns, while Spain seek their first world title since lifting the trophy in South Africa in 2010.
