The Delta State Police Command has arrested nine suspects during a statewide operation targeting illegal roadblocks and unauthorised revenue collection on major highways across the state.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the command said the exercise was carried out in compliance with the Federal Government’s directive to eliminate extortion and other criminal activities on Nigerian roads.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the enforcement operation commenced on Friday, focusing on locations notorious for illegal toll collection and roadblocks that have disrupted traffic and exposed motorists to harassment.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended at strategic locations, including the Head Bridge axis along the Delta and Anambra states boundary and the Benin Asaba Expressway near Agbor.
“The Delta State Police Command has launched a statewide clampdown on illegal roadblocks and unauthorised revenue collection along highways in strict compliance with the Federal Government’s directive to rid Nigerian roads of extortion and criminal activities,” the statement said.
Edafe disclosed that all nine suspects are currently in police custody and will be prosecuted after investigations are concluded.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to restoring safety and order on highways across the state, adding that similar operations would be extended to other parts of Delta.
The police spokesman also appealed to members of the public to cooperate with security personnel during the ongoing enforcement exercise aimed at ensuring motorists and commuters travel without harassment or illegal levies.
