The Lagos State Government has advised motorists to expect traffic delays on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as repair works on the Kara Bridge commence on Tuesday, July 28.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the government said the Federal Ministry of Works will begin replacing the bridge’s expansion joint as part of efforts to improve the condition and safety of the busy highway.

According to the state government, the rehabilitation project will last for two weeks, during which the four-lane carriageway will be reduced to two lanes along a 1.5-kilometre stretch of the bridge.
It warned that the temporary lane reduction is expected to slow traffic, particularly during peak travel periods when thousands of commuters use the expressway daily.
The government also cautioned that motorists could experience heavy congestion around the Fatgbems Turn, as some drivers may attempt to make U-turns or divert to alternative routes to avoid the construction area.
However, it noted that vehicles travelling towards Ibadan beyond the Fatgbems Turn are expected to experience minimal disruption despite the ongoing repairs.
The state government urged motorists to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra travel time and use alternative routes where possible to minimise delays.
Drivers were also advised to obey traffic signs and cooperate with traffic management officials who will be deployed along the corridor throughout the rehabilitation period.
The government assured residents that traffic management personnel would be on the ground to ease congestion and ensure the safety of both road users and construction workers.
It added that the rehabilitation forms part of ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure, enhance the safety of motorists and extend the lifespan of the Kara Bridge.
The government appealed to residents and commuters for patience, understanding and cooperation, noting that the temporary inconvenience would result in a safer and more durable bridge for all road users.
