The Nigerian Army has opened an internal investigation following the unauthorised circulation of a classified intelligence report issued by the Department of State Services (DSS), which warned of planned attacks by suspected Boko Haram insurgents and bandits in parts of Adamawa and Borno states.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that military sources disclosed that senior officers at the 232 Battalion in Yola, Adamawa State, are working to identify the individual responsible for leaking the confidential document after it appeared in the public domain.

According to a security source familiar with the matter, the intelligence report had already been officially received and recorded by the battalion before it was allegedly photographed and shared outside authorised channels.
The source, who requested anonymity because he was not permitted to speak publicly, said investigators believe an officer copied the document after it had passed through the battalion’s registry and circulated it for reasons yet to be determined.
He expressed concern that the leak had created unnecessary fear among residents, noting that the DSS had originally sent the intelligence as an early warning to enable security agencies prepare for possible attacks.
Another military officer confirmed that the battalion had begun a thorough investigation, describing the leak as a serious breach capable of undermining national security.
The officer vowed that those responsible would be identified and held accountable, stressing that the military would not tolerate actions that compromise intelligence operations.
The leaked report, dated July 27, 2026, was addressed to the Commander of the 23 Armoured Brigade in Yola.
According to the document, the DSS warned that suspected Boko Haram fighters were planning coordinated attacks in Michika Local Government Area of Adamawa State and Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State after the reported collapse of a ceasefire arrangement.
The intelligence indicated that the attackers intended to abduct senior government officials, councillors, traditional rulers, religious leaders and other residents in the affected communities.
It also listed the District Head of Michika and his son among those allegedly marked for kidnapping.
The report further revealed that surveillance teams had already been deployed by the insurgents to monitor activities in the targeted locations ahead of the planned attacks.
To counter the threat, the DSS advised the Nigerian Army to strengthen collaboration with forest guards and local hunters to improve security and prevent the planned assaults.
