Teen Allegedly Fakes Abduction, Demands ₦200,000 Ransom From Father

The Niger State Police Command has arrested two teenagers for allegedly staging a fake kidnap in an attempt to extort ₦200,000 from the father of one of the suspects.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the suspects, identified as Kelvin Faga, 15, and Mayowa Ojewuyi, also known as “Mayor,” 17, were arrested after police investigations revealed that the reported abduction had been planned by the duo.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said Kelvin left his home for church on July 20, 2026, but failed to return, prompting his family to report him missing at the ‘B’ Division Police Station in Suleja.

According to Abiodun, the family received a phone call the following day from an individual who claimed Kelvin had been kidnapped and demanded a ransom of ₦200,000.

He said police operatives immediately launched an investigation and, acting on credible intelligence, traced Kelvin to a hotel in Suleja on July 25, where he was found with his alleged accomplice.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed that they staged the kidnap to obtain ₦200,000 from Kelvin’s father and planned to share the money between themselves.

Abiodun said both suspects are currently in the custody of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where further investigations are ongoing.

He added that they would be charged to court after the investigation is concluded.
