The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has confirmed the release of the Nigerian girls who were detained in Mauritius, saying they are on their way back to Nigeria.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the disclosure was contained in a statement issued on Monday by NiDCOM’s Head of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, Abdur-Rahman Balogun.

According to the statement, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, said the girls had been safely released in Nairobi and were currently en route to Nigeria.
Dabiri-Erewa disclosed that the commission is working closely with the relevant Nigerian embassy, which has formally taken up the matter with the appropriate authorities to ensure accountability for the incident and prevent a recurrence.
She expressed sympathy for the affected girls and said the commission hopes they will be willing to share their experiences upon their return to Nigeria to support any necessary follow-up actions and interventions.
The NiDCOM chairman reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to protecting the welfare, safety and rights of Nigerians living abroad.
She added that the commission would continue to collaborate with relevant authorities and Nigerian diplomatic missions to safeguard the interests of citizens wherever they reside, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
