- Osimhen will continue wearing Galatasaray’s number 45 shirt
- He said the number has brought him good luck
- The striker also scored in a pre-season draw against Rennes
Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has explained why he turned down Galatasaray’s iconic number nine jersey, choosing instead to continue wearing number 45 ahead of the new season.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Osimhen, who recently completed a permanent transfer to the Turkish champions after an impressive loan spell, has quickly established himself as one of the club’s most influential players.
His goals and performances have earned him widespread admiration from the club’s supporters.
Many fans anticipated that the Nigerian striker would take over the prestigious number nine shirt, previously associated with Mauro Icardi and traditionally reserved for the team’s main striker. However, the 27-year-old decided to remain with the number he has worn since arriving in Istanbul.

Speaking about the choice, Osimhen said personal attachment was more important than the commercial appeal of switching shirt numbers.
He acknowledged that adopting the number nine jersey could have boosted shirt sales but maintained that number 45 holds special significance for him.
According to the striker, the shirt has brought him good fortune since joining Galatasaray, and he believes it is the right number to continue with.

Osimhen has been a key figure in Galatasaray’s recent success, delivering important goals and consistently impressive performances that convinced the club to make his move from Napoli permanent.
The Nigerian international has also begun preparations for the new campaign on a positive note, scoring in Galatasaray’s 3-3 pre-season draw against French side Rennes in Istanbul. The result forms part of the club’s build-up to the upcoming season.
