Woman, Hospital Worker Arrested for Allegedly Kidnapping Toddler From Hospital Ward

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old woman and a nursing officer over the alleged abduction of a one-and-a-half-year-old baby boy from the paediatric ward of Babura General Hospital.

According to the statement, the prime suspect, Khadija Aliyu of Kinkinau Quarters, Kaduna State, was arrested after police received a distress call from Babura General Hospital reporting the disappearance of the child.

Police operatives tracked the suspect to the outskirts of Babura town, where she was allegedly found with the abducted baby.

Further investigations led to the arrest of Sadik Sale Yahaya, 25, a nursing officer attached to Babura General Hospital, who police alleged conspired with the woman to carry out the abduction.

According to SP Shiisu, the female suspect confessed during interrogation that she had taken the child to an orphanage in Kaduna State with the intention of selling the baby for ₦2 million.

The rescued child has been placed in protective custody and is expected to be reunited with the family after the completion of the necessary procedures.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijjani Murtala, commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and swift response, which led to the rescue of the child and the arrest of the suspects.

He also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support efforts aimed at preventing crime and improving public safety across the state.
