Eko Hot Blog reports that the group made this known during a courtesy visit to the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Council, where its delegation engaged with the council leadership on areas of mutual interest and possible collaboration.
The engagement focused on the growing influence of digital media in communicating government programmes, policies, projects, and development initiatives to citizens and a wider audience.
Members of the delegation noted that the rapid growth of digital platforms has created new opportunities for governments to communicate directly with citizens while showcasing developmental achievements and creating greater awareness about opportunities within communities.
They explained that responsible digital advocacy can contribute to good governance by providing citizens with credible information, encouraging constructive engagement, and ensuring that positive developments receive the visibility they deserve.
The group highlighted the need to properly project the economic, social, cultural, and investment potential of communities such as Ibeju-Lekki, stressing that strategic digital storytelling could attract greater attention to ongoing development and emerging opportunities in the area.
According to the delegation, digital advocates have an important role to play in bridging the communication gap between government and citizens, particularly by taking information about public programmes and development initiatives to audiences across different digital platforms.
The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss ways of promoting development in Ibeju-Lekki through stronger collaboration among government, digital media practitioners, content creators, and civic advocates.
The delegation expressed its willingness to support initiatives that promote transparency, citizen participation, development awareness, and positive community narratives.
It further stressed that effective digital communication should not be limited to publicity but should also encourage citizens to understand government programmes, participate in community development, and contribute meaningfully to conversations about the future of their communities.
The engagement ended with optimism about future collaboration in the areas of digital advocacy, strategic communication, citizen engagement, development promotion, and responsible storytelling.
The proposed partnership is expected to strengthen the use of digital platforms in projecting development initiatives and the immense potential of Ibeju-Lekki to audiences within Nigeria and beyond.
