The strategic retreat is being organized in collaboration with Lenders Consult International and is themed Developing a Nigeria Police Roadmap for Effective Management of Security During Elections.
The conference will gather top-tier leadership across the police force, including officers from the rank of Commissioner of Police and above, alongside senior security experts, political analysts, and key electoral stakeholders.
Deliberations throughout the three-day gathering will center heavily on advancing intelligence-led policing, fostering deeper community partnerships, and incorporating emerging digital technologies and artificial intelligence to refine security operations before, during, and after the polls.
The primary objective of the high-level meeting is to establish actionable operational frameworks designed to guarantee maximum protection for voters, electoral officials, candidates, campaign materials, and members of the general public.
The formal opening ceremony is slated for 10:00 am on Monday, September 21, in Owerri, bringing together state dignitaries and institutional leaders to inaugurate the proceedings.
The police high command emphasized that this initiative forms an essential part of ongoing institutional reforms geared toward strengthening strategic leadership, operational readiness, and professional discipline within the force ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
The timing of the security retreat aligns with heightened political activities across the country as registered political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Under the revised timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled to hold on January 16, 2027, while the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will take place on February 6, 2027.
In accordance with electoral guidelines, public campaigning for the Presidential and National Assembly seats is officially scheduled to commence on August 19, 2026, while campaigns for governorship and state assembly races will begin on September 9.
All public campaign activities are mandated to end strictly 24 hours prior to election day.
With the commencement of official campaign activities imminent, major political organizations, including the ruling All Progressives Congress, the African Democratic Congress, the Nigeria Democratic Congress, and the Peoples Democratic Party, have ramped up consultations, grassroots mobilization, and coalition building.
This surge in political activity has intensified public calls for proactive security measures to prevent violence, voter intimidation, and electoral disruption.
