The contractor handling an ongoing 3-storey building in the Umuozue area of Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State has reportedly gone into hiding following the collapse of the structure on Thursday morning.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the building, located at No. 7 Chima Otuka Street, Osisioma, reportedly collapsed at about 3:00 a.m., approximately 8 hours after workers had closed for the day.

The collapse also damaged a car and other property belonging to a tenant living in an adjoining building.
The cause of the incident has not been established, as relevant government agencies are yet to conclude their assessment of the structure.
However, some residents of Umuozue community said parapet work on the building was completed by site workers on Wednesday evening, hours before the collapse.
Following the incident, officials of the Osisioma Ngwa Town Planning Office sealed the site to prevent unauthorised access and allow for a thorough investigation into the cause of the collapse.
The reported disappearance of the contractor is expected to form part of the investigation as authorities work to establish responsibility and determine whether any construction standards were violated.
