According to a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Bashir Usman, the suspect, who resides in Rikoto, allegedly offered to help Muhammad fetch hot water after she delivered her baby.
The police alleged that Ibrahim instead fled with the newborn.
Preliminary investigation reportedly showed that the suspect had been under pressure over her inability to have a child, particularly as some of her peers had already become mothers.

The command further alleged that Ibrahim had deceived her husband for about nine months by pretending to be pregnant.
Police said she allegedly presented the stolen newborn to her husband as their child after taking the baby from Muhammad.
Following an investigation that lasted several months, the suspect was arrested on August 14, 2026.
The police said the baby was also recovered and successfully reunited with the biological mother.
Ibrahim remains in police custody and is expected to be charged to court after the completion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, commended the officers involved in the case for their diligence and professionalism, particularly their efforts in ensuring the safe recovery of the child.
