Ogunlola said the state had renewed its warning that dealer registration plates must not be used permanently or routinely on vehicles, stressing that their misuse violates the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
She explained that dealer plates are permitted only for specific activities, including authorised vehicle test drives, inspections, delivery or collection of vehicles and the movement of unregistered vehicles from ports or licensed dealership premises to approved destinations.
According to her, motorists cannot legally use dealer plates for daily private commuting or unrestricted movement on public roads.

“Their use for private daily commuting, continuous operation on public roads, or on vehicles already sold is prohibited,” she said.
Ogunlola disclosed that the Vehicle Inspection Service had impounded 175 vehicles found to be allegedly violating the regulations governing dealer number plates.
She added that the dealer plates recovered from the affected vehicles would be confiscated, while the vehicles would undergo further investigation.
The ministry also warned motorists against using unauthorised, counterfeit or concealed registration numbers, as well as displaying vehicle registration plates improperly.
Ogunlola said offenders could face enforcement measures, including vehicle impoundment and prosecution under relevant traffic laws.
She urged motorists and automobile dealers to familiarise themselves with the approved conditions for using dealer plates and ensure compliance with the law.
The ministry said the enforcement was aimed at strengthening vehicle identification, improving accountability and enhancing safety on Lagos roads.
