Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has rejected calls for him to apologise to Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, over his social media post displaying the governor’s alleged West African Examinations Council result.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Davido maintained that he did nothing wrong by sharing the result, saying he was only drawing attention to the academic record of the Edo governor.

The singer spoke during an exclusive interview with News Central on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in Osun State.
“I’m not going to apologise. I didn’t do anything wrong. I was just telling people of the state the results their governor has,” Davido said.
The controversy followed comments made by Okpebholo about Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke during political activities ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Okpebholo had mocked Adeleke over his reputation for dancing, questioning the Osun governor’s leadership style while campaigning for the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.
“Before somebody signs paper, he will dance. Are you not tired? For four years, this man has been dancing. Before he takes breakfast, before he drinks tea, he will dance,” Okpebholo had said.
Davido, who is Adeleke’s nephew and was actively involved in his uncle’s campaign, subsequently shared what appeared to be Okpebholo’s WAEC result on his Instagram Story.
The post, which did not contain a caption, triggered widespread reactions on social media, with some critics describing it as inappropriate and disrespectful.
Responding to the backlash and calls for an apology, Davido accused Okpebholo of travelling from Edo State to attack his uncle in Osun.
He said Okpebholo had no business criticising Adeleke while visiting the state for political activities.
“Yes, and you came, you left your state, you came to another state. You came in and then started talking that my uncle is a dancer; he is not serious,” Davido said.
He also criticised Okpebholo over the state of the road leading to the Edo State Government House and questioned the circumstances surrounding his election.
“The road to your Government House is not done. My uncle is not serious. First of all, you were not even elected; you were selected,” he added.
Davido further questioned Okpebholo’s understanding of electoral victory, saying, “You don’t know what it means to win an election. That’s why you could go there and talk.”
The singer also expressed sympathy for Okpebholo’s children, arguing that public attacks between elected officials could affect their families.
“I feel so bad for his kids. Because you see what my dad is doing. Do you understand? Yeah, you’re abusing a sitting governor in his own state,” he said.
Davido also mocked Okpebholo over his reported stay in a hotel and warned that Adeleke would respond politically when the time came.
“A whole governor staying in a hotel, walking around like…” he said.
He added, “In fact, finish your three years, we’ll visit you when it’s time for you to get re-elected.”
Davido’s response followed a public appeal by Tugbiyele, who urged the singer to apologise to the Edo governor over the publication.

Tugbiyele had described Davido’s decision to share the alleged WAEC result as inappropriate, arguing that the academic record of a public official should not be used to ridicule him.
According to Tugbiyele, Adeleke should have responded to Okpebholo through official channels rather than allowing his nephew to engage in the dispute.
He appealed directly to Davido, saying, “Davido, David Adeleke, please, as a proper Yoruba, please apologise to Governor Okpebholo. God bless you, David. God bless Nigeria.”
However, Davido’s latest comments show that he has no intention of withdrawing the post or apologising to the Edo governor, as the political dispute between the two camps continues.
