Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented at the event by his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, commended the awardees for their years of commitment to public service and their contributions to the development of Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu said public service should not be judged simply by the number of years an officer spends in office, but by the impact made on the lives of citizens.
He noted that many of the awardees had spent more than 30 years serving the state, remaining committed despite changes in political leadership, technology and the changing needs of communities.
“We should be proud and happy that God has placed you in positions where you have added value,” the governor said.
He added that the careers of the awardees represented a long-standing commitment to service and an ability to adapt while remaining focused on the people.
“Through all of this, you stayed, you moved around, and you served the people,” he said.

The governor assured the officers that his administration would continue to recognise and appreciate their contributions to Lagos.
“This government will stand by you, and the community will stand by you,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu also urged younger public officers to learn from the discipline, consistency and integrity demonstrated by their more experienced colleagues.
“For the young ones just starting out, I think we should look closely at the people sitting here today. Their careers offer something no classroom can teach: the value of consistency, discipline and integrity,” he said.
He encouraged younger officers to draw from the experience of the awardees as they work towards building a public service that is more efficient, transparent, decentralised and responsive to the needs of residents.
The Lagos State Head of Service, Olabode Agoro, said the government would continue to recognise and celebrate public servants who had devoted a significant part of their lives to serving humanity.
Agoro disclosed that the 506 awardees comprised 492 senior officers and 14 junior officers.
He urged them to sustain the values of responsibility, commitment and loyalty for which they were honoured.
The Permanent Secretary, Office of Local Government Establishments and Training, Toyin Ogunlana, said the Long Service Merit Award was established to recognise officers whose careers had been characterised by loyalty, discipline and commitment to public service.
She said the initiative also celebrates the values required to sustain an effective and responsive public service, including integrity, diligence, accountability and excellence.
Some of the awardees expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for recognising their contributions and providing them with the opportunity to serve the state and its people.
