The event, held at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, brought together government officials, policymakers, and advocates to push for real action on gender equality.
Sanwo-Olu stressed that conversations around women’s rights must move beyond awareness to real, measurable impact. According to him, Lagos is focused on building systems where justice is enforced, rights are protected, and women are given the tools to thrive.

He noted that gender inclusion remains a core part of the state’s development plan, warning that no society can achieve sustainable growth if half of its population is left behind.
The governor also highlighted this year’s message, “Give to Gain,” describing it as more than a slogan. He explained that investing in women through education, legal protection, and economic opportunities ultimately benefits society as a whole, leading to safer communities, innovation, and long-term development.
Also speaking, the First Lady, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, called for a shift from symbolic gestures to meaningful change. She emphasised the need to strengthen women’s confidence, expand access to finance, and support more women to take up leadership roles, especially in politics.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Bolaji Dada, highlighted the importance of collaboration between government, civil society, and development partners in advancing gender equality. She noted that empowering women through entrepreneurship and digital skills remains key to sustainable progress.

Other stakeholders, including lawmakers, political leaders, and advocates, echoed similar views, calling for stronger policies, better implementation, and collective action to ensure women and girls can live safely and achieve their full potential.
The event ended with a shared message: real progress will only come when commitments are backed by action, and when systems are deliberately designed to support and empower women at every level.
