The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency received a distress call about the accident at 5:16am and immediately deployed its Dolphin Team from the Igando Base.
According to him, responders discovered that the Toyota Camry had collided head-on with the Iveco truck.
Preliminary findings indicated that the crash was caused by excessive speed and reckless driving by the Camry driver, who reportedly lost control, veered into the opposite lane and collided with the oncoming truck.
“Regrettably, the impact of the collision resulted in the death of five adult males who were occupants of the Toyota Camry,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
The victims’ remains were recovered and handed over to officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, for further necessary action.
The rescue operation involved personnel from LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASTMA, FRSC and the Nigeria Police Force from the Morogbo Division.

LASEMA also deployed two tow trucks to remove the damaged vehicles and restore the flow of traffic.
The agency said the recovery operation was successfully completed, with the vehicles taken to the Morogbo Police Division, while the road was fully reopened to motorists.
Oke-Osanyintolu commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged motorists to avoid speeding, wrongful overtaking and other dangerous driving practices, particularly during the early hours when visibility may be reduced.
He stressed that road safety remains a shared responsibility and urged motorists to strictly obey traffic regulations.
