The All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, but the composition of the council has already generated reactions following the absence of some prominent party figures with previous presidential campaign experience.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the council was announced on Saturday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy and Coordinating Director of Media and Strategic Communication of the campaign.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will serve as chairman, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda will serve as vice chairmen.
Eko Hot Blog reports that former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdul’aziz Yari, was appointed Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was named secretary.

APC National Secretary Ajibola Bashiru and Hadiza Bala-Usman were appointed deputy secretary and assistant secretary respectively.
However, reports of a possible adjustment to the council have emerged amid concerns about the representation of some party stakeholders, geographical spread and the party’s political structure.
Among the prominent APC figures not listed in the initial council are:
1. Festus Keyamo
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development has played prominent roles in previous APC presidential campaigns.
Keyamo served as Director of Strategic Communications and spokesperson during the 2019 campaign for former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In 2023, he served as Chief Spokesperson and Director of Public Affairs for the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council.
2. Simon Lalong
Former Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong was Director-General of the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 election.
His experience in managing a presidential campaign makes his absence from the initial 2027 council notable.
3. Nuhu Ribadu
The National Security Adviser previously served as Director of Field Operations for the Buhari Presidential Campaign Organisation during the 2019 election.
Although Ribadu is currently focused on national security responsibilities, his previous campaign experience makes him another prominent figure absent from the list.
4. Yahaya Bello
Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello was a major grassroots mobiliser during the 2019 APC presidential campaign.
He remains an influential figure within the party, with a political network that could potentially be useful to the 2027 campaign structure.
5. Femi Fani-Kayode
Former Aviation Minister and APC chieftain Femi Fani-Kayode was an outspoken supporter of Tinubu during the 2023 presidential campaign.
He served as Director of Special Media Operations and New Media for the Tinubu-Shettima campaign and played a prominent role in defending the presidential ticket.
With reports suggesting that the campaign council could be adjusted, attention is now focused on whether some of the prominent figures missing from the initial list will be included in an expanded or revised structure.
